Arthur T. Russell

18061874 · Northampton · England

An English clergyman who won the Hulsean Prize at Cambridge, Russell held a string of country parishes, longest at Caxton, and finished as rector of Southwick near Brighton. He wrote about 140 hymns of his own and translated many more from German. A High Churchman in youth, he turned moderate Calvinist after reading Augustine.
