Daughter of an Anglican clergyman who wrote hymns himself, Noel started writing verse as a teenager and then set it aside for more than twenty years. Recurring illness left her an invalid, and she took up devotional poetry again as comfort for herself and for others confined by sickness. The poems were gathered in The Name of Jesus and Other Verses for the Sick and Lonely.
