Christian Henry Bateman

Raised among the Moravians, he became a Congregational minister in Edinburgh in 1843 and later moved into the Church of England, serving parishes from Jersey to Wales. He helped edit The Sacred Song Book for Sunday schools, which sold widely in Scotland. "Come, Christians, join to sing" began life there as a children's hymn, "Come, children, join to sing."
