Born in Jordan Falls, Nova Scotia, she married the Baptist evangelist W. Stillman Martin and traveled with him until poor health kept her at home much of the time. She wrote several hundred hymns under her initials, including "God Will Take Care of You" in 1904, set to her husband's music, and "His Eye Is on the Sparrow." Her last decades were spent in Atlanta, where she was active in the First Christian Church.
