Edwin Barnes

He left Southampton, England, for Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1881 to study at Battle Creek College and play the organ at the Seventh-day Adventist church there. For nearly twenty years he headed the college's music department and founded a conservatory of music, later directing music at the city's First Congregational Church. Hillsdale College gave him an honorary doctorate in 1920.
