A children's writer raised in London's literary and theatrical circles, she was typing stories on her father's machine at seven and had an opera libretto staged at sixteen. Her Nursery Rhymes of London Town was sung in schools across England, and The Little Bookroom won both the Carnegie Medal and the first Hans Christian Andersen Award.
