F. Bland Tucker
1895–1984 · Norfolk, Virginia · United States
The son of one Episcopal bishop and brother of another, he served as a private in an army hospital in France during the First World War before his ordination in 1920. He was rector of St. John's in Georgetown and then of Christ Church, Savannah, John Wesley's old parish. Writing hymns never crossed his mind until he joined the commission that prepared The Hymnal 1940.
