Author
Folliott S. Pierpoint
1835–1917 · Bath, Somerset · England
One spring day in 1863 he sat on a hill above his native Bath, looking out over the winding River Avon, and wrote "For the beauty of the earth." A Cambridge graduate in classics, he taught the subject now and then, but an inheritance let him spend most of his life in private study and writing. Several volumes of his poems appeared, and his hymns found their way into church collections.
