Frederick H. Hedge

Educated in Germany and at Harvard, he served Unitarian congregations from West Cambridge to Bangor, Maine, before returning to Harvard as a professor, first of church history and then of German literature. His German training shows in his hymn translations, among them the version of "A mighty fortress is our God" sung here.
