Frederick Oakeley
1802–1880 · Shrewsbury · England
An Anglican clergyman drawn into the Oxford Movement, he was minister of Margaret Chapel in London when a church court suspended him over his views in 1845. Rather than recant, he resigned and joined the Roman Catholic Church, later serving as a canon in Westminster. His English version of "Adeste Fideles" became the familiar "O come, all ye faithful."
