Frederick Whitfield

1829–1904 · Threapwood, Shropshire · England

Born in Shropshire and trained at Trinity College, Dublin, he held Anglican posts from Otley to Greenwich before settling at St. Mary's, Hastings, in 1875. He published more than thirty books of prose and verse. Of his hymns, "I need Thee, precious Jesus" traveled furthest.
