Author
Frederick William Faber
1814–1863 · Calverley, Yorkshire · England
Raised in a strict Calvinist home of Huguenot descent, he was ordained in the Church of England in 1839 and followed John Henry Newman into the Roman Catholic Church six years later. He wanted Catholics to have hymns as singable as those of Wesley and Cowper, and wrote about 150 of them himself. "Faith of our fathers" first appeared with verses about Mary.
