George Coles Stebbins
1846–1945
After music studies in Buffalo and Rochester, he moved to Chicago around 1869 to work for the Lyon and Healy music firm and lead music at First Baptist Church, where he met Philip Bliss and Ira Sankey. Boston followed, first at Clarendon Street Baptist under A. J. Gordon and then at Tremont Temple. He later joined Moody's evangelistic campaigns and spent a year around 1900 leading singing abroad.
