1875–1959

A canon of Worcester Cathedral and a leader in the Hymn Society of Great Britain and Ireland, he wrote tunes as well as texts for British hymnals and two widely used books on school worship. Six of his hymns appear in the 1940 Episcopal Hymnal. He composed the prayer used when Churchill and Roosevelt met aboard HMS Prince of Wales in 1941 to frame the Atlantic Charter.
