Composer
H. A. Cesar Malan
1787–1864 · Geneva · Switzerland
Sent to Marseilles to learn business, he soon turned to theology instead and was ordained in Geneva in 1810. Robert Haldane's visit in 1816 moved him from Unitarian views to evangelical faith, and by 1820 he had opened his own chapel, which cost him his ministerial standing three years later. He then spent decades on evangelistic tours across Europe and wrote a great many hymns.
