Author
Henry F. Chorley
1808–1872 · Blackley Hurst, Lancashire · United Kingdom
The son of an ironworker, Chorley joined the staff of the London Athenaeum in 1834 and stayed thirty-five years as its music critic and reviewer. Conservative in taste, he attacked Schumann and Wagner in print, yet counted Dickens and Mendelssohn among his friends. He also wrote novels and opera librettos.
