Author
Henry Francis Lyte
1793–1847 · Ednam, near Kelso, Scotland · United Kingdom
Educated at Trinity College, Dublin, Lyte gave up plans for medicine and took orders in 1815. The death of a fellow clergyman in Cornwall in 1818 turned his faith and his preaching in a new direction. From 1823 until his death he was curate of Lower Brixham in Devon, and his psalm paraphrases from The Spirit of the Psalms are still widely sung.
