J. Michael Haydn

Younger brother of Joseph Haydn, Michael spent more than forty years in Salzburg as concertmaster to the archbishop and organist at St. Peter's Church. In 1781 he succeeded his friend Mozart as cathedral organist, and he later taught the young Carl Maria von Weber. Joseph judged Michael's sacred music, including nearly fifty masses, better than his own.
