James Langran

Langran was organist of St. Paul's Church, Tottenham, for almost forty years, and only completed his Oxford music degree at forty-nine. He taught music at a training college for schoolmistresses and was music editor of the New Mitre Hymnal in 1875. Around fifty hymn tunes are his, several of them in early editions of Hymns Ancient and Modern.
