A Church of Scotland minister's daughter who trained as an organist in Banff. In 1871, living in her father's parish of Crimond, she wrote a tune for Psalm 23 as a composition-class exercise and had David Grant of Aberdeen reharmonize it. For years the tune was credited to Grant until her sister wrote to the editors to set the record straight. Crimond was sung at Princess Elizabeth's wedding in 1947.
