Johann Crüger

From 1622 he was the Lutheran cantor at St. Nicholas Church in Berlin, where he spent the rest of his working life publishing music and pushing for congregations to sing. His 1644 collection Praxis Pietatis Melica became the leading German hymnbook of its century and was reprinted dozens of times. NUN DANKET, the tune for "Now Thank We All Our God," is his.
