1818–1895 · Bonhard, near Perth · Scotland

A Church of Scotland minister who served three parishes, the last in Glasgow, before retiring in 1871 to Chislehurst in Kent. He sat on the General Assembly's hymnal committee and wrote devotional books that sold widely on both sides of the Atlantic. "Christ is coming! Let creation" comes from his 1853 collection Altar Stones.
