An Irish-born Anglican clergyman, trained at Trinity College Dublin, who moved to England in 1853 and ended his ministry as rector of St. Nicholas in Guildford. He died from an accident during building work at that church. Across eleven volumes of verse he wrote some three hundred hymns, many tied to the church year, including "Fight the good fight."
