Author
Joseph A. Seiss
1823–1904
Raised in a Moravian family under the original surname Seuss, he trained largely with private tutors and became a Lutheran pastor in 1842. After early charges in Virginia and Maryland he spent more than forty years leading two Philadelphia congregations. He wrote or edited around eighty books and helped compile several hymnals, and his English version of "Fairest Lord Jesus" is the one sung here.
