Lucius Chapin

At fifteen he enlisted as a fifer in the Continental Army and wintered at Valley Forge with Washington. After the war he ran singing schools across New England, then carried the tradition south to the Shenandoah Valley and west to Kentucky and Ohio. The shape-note tune Twenty-Fourth is attributed to him.
