A Baptist writing under the pen name Marianne Farningham, she spent her working life on the staff of the Christian World newspaper from its first issue and also edited the Sunday School Times. From 1865 she lived in Northampton. Just As I Am, Thine Own to Be was written in 1887, prompted by Charlotte Elliott's older hymn with the same opening words.
