Martin Herbst

A German Lutheran pastor, Herbst studied theology and philosophy at Altdorf and Jena. In 1680 he became rector of the school in Eisleben and then pastor of St. Andreas church there, only to die of plague the next year at 27. The tune Aus der Tiefe is attributed to him.
