An Augustinian monk turned professor at Wittenberg, Luther posted his 95 Theses in 1517 and set the Reformation in motion. He translated the Bible into German and wrote hymns so ordinary people could sing their faith in their own tongue. A Mighty Fortress, both words and tune, is his.
