Author
Nicolaus L. Zinzendorf
1700–1760 · Dresden · Germany
A count born to wealth in Dresden, Zinzendorf gave up public office in 1731 to lead the Moravian community at Herrnhut and travel as a missionary through Europe and America. John Wesley borrowed ideas on singing and class organization from him. He wrote around two thousand hymns, and a handful of them are still treasured for their warmth.
