The wife of a Nazarene general superintendent, she spent her widowhood driving from house to house teaching piano, often for free to pastors' children so they could one day play in church. Her father, an alcoholic who came to faith through his wife's example, once testified that he would rather have Jesus than all the world's silver and gold. That line became her hymn 'I'd Rather Have Jesus,' which George Beverly Shea made famous.
