Robert Bridges

Trained as a physician, he gave up medicine in 1881 to write full time and was named England's poet laureate in 1913. His Yattendon Hymnal of 1899 gathered a hundred hymns, nearly half of them his own texts or translations, including 'All my hope on God is founded.'
