Robert Lowry

A Baptist pastor who served churches in Pennsylvania and later New Jersey, he was also a fine speaker and for a time taught literature at the University at Lewisburg. He edited a string of Sunday school songbooks for the publisher Biglow and Main. His own melodies traveled the world, none more widely than 'Shall we gather at the river,' which he wrote in 1864.
