T. Richard Matthews
1826–1910 · Colmworth · England
Son of the rector of Colmworth, he studied at Cambridge and then under the Windsor organist George Elvey, who became a lifelong friend. He was curate of St. Mary's in Nottingham and afterward rector of North Coates in Lincolnshire for nearly forty years. He wrote more than a hundred hymn tunes, once turning out six for a children's hymnal in a single day. His tune Margaret carries 'Thou didst leave Thy throne.'
