Timothy Dwight

A grandson of Jonathan Edwards, he served as an army chaplain during the Revolutionary War and then pastored a Congregational church in Fairfield, Connecticut, while running an academy on the side. In 1795 he became president of Yale, where he kept teaching and preaching until his death and raised both the academic and the spiritual tone of the college.
