Composer
William Batchelder Bradbury
1816–1868 · York, Maine · United States
Raised on a Maine farm, Bradbury became a church organist at fifteen after his family moved to Boston, where he studied under Lowell Mason. In New York he ran singing schools and children's music festivals that helped bring music into the public school curriculum. He edited 59 collections of sacred and secular music and, with his brother, founded a piano company.
