William Clayton
1814–1879 · Penwortham, Lancashire · England
A Mormon missionary in his native England, Clayton emigrated to America in 1840 and served as Joseph Smith's private secretary in Nauvoo, Illinois. He crossed the plains to Utah with Brigham Young's company and in later years played second violin in the Salt Lake Theater orchestra.
