An Oxford-educated Anglican priest, Draper served parishes in Shrewsbury and Alfreton before becoming rector of Adel near Leeds in 1899. He wrote or translated over sixty hymns, many for occasions such as harvest and church dedications. His paraphrase of Francis of Assisi's canticle became 'All creatures of our God and King'.
