Author
William W. How
1823–1897 · Shrewsbury, Shropshire · England
Ordained in 1847, How spent nearly thirty years as rector of Whittington in Shropshire before becoming a bishop in East London in 1879 and Bishop of Wakefield in 1888. Work among the London poor and the Yorkshire mill towns earned him the name 'the poor man's bishop'. He wrote about sixty hymns, many for children, in plain language with a practical bent.
